About Bangor Golf Club:

angor Golf Club is situated near the centre of Bangor overlooking Belfast Lough and the Antrim Hills. It has upwards of 1000 playing and social members but is very happy to welcome visitors and societies throughout the year and will tailor packages to meet the needs of each individual party, large or small. Join our mailing list to make sure you get up to date details of our rates and offers throughout the year. Until recently our Professional was Michael Bannon who now coaches Rory McIlroy and you will often see Rory and Michael throughout the year on the course or practice fairway perfecting his skills before the next competition. The Club was founded in 1903 with a nine hole golf course. The 18 hole layout was designed by James Braid and although it has been modified it still retains many of its original features. The course has been redesigned in recent years to modern standards and presents the golfer with a challenge in scenic surroundings. The course is continually maturing and trees planted in the early days are now to be seen in their full beauty. The fairways are lush and the greens are smooth and fast and would easily stand comparison with the most famous courses. There are stunning views of Belfast Lough, the Antrim Hills, the Irish Sea and the coast of Scotland from the top of the 4th hill and the view from the Clubhouse windows, after a successful round cannot be beaten. The course has attracted some major events, including the Ulster and Irish Professional Championships and Pro-Ams in which such names as Christy O’Connor Senior, Fred Daly, Peter Allis, Tony Jacklin and Roberto de Vincenzo featured. The professional record was set up in August 1962 when Christy O’Connor senior scored 62 with nine birdies, eight pars and an eagle at the 460 yard 5th hole. The total length of the golf course is 6410 yards from the medal tees, Standard Scratch is 71 and the course will challenge and entertain the good player without discouraging the less able.
