Bearna Golf & Country Club
About Bearna Golf & Country Club
Bearna Golf Club occupies a rugged stretch of Connemara-style countryside just west of Galway city, near the coastal village of Barna. Opened in the early 1990s, this 18-hole course makes striking use of granite outcrops, heather, gorse and natural changes in elevation. Golfers encounter views towards Galway Bay, the Burren and the Aran Islands, alongside a layout where water features add to the challenge. The clubhouse sits above much of the course and provides a welcoming base for members and visitors. Bearna offers a distinctive alternative to conventional tree-lined parkland golf, combining west-coast scenery with an accessible location close to Galway.
Course Information
The 18-hole Bearna course runs through granite rock, bogland, gorse and heather, with views opening towards Galway Bay, the Burren and the Aran Islands. Water affects play on many holes, while sand-based greens and natural elevation changes reward accuracy and course management. The terrain gives the layout a rugged west-of-Ireland character rather than a conventional manicured parkland feel.
